H.M.S. Sunfish was one of sixty-two "S" Class submarines completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
Commissioned on 13 March, 1937.[1]
On 22 February 1939, Sunfish dragged her anchors while moored 5.9 cables off Sandown Pier Light. Lieutenant-in-Command Thomas Tod Euman was Court-Martialed in the aftermath and received a reprimand and was dismissed the ship despite supporting testimony from Harry Percy Kendall Oram and the fact that he had appeared to have taken reasonable precautions.[2] That the submarine Sterlet suffered the same misfortune on the occasion, suggests that unusual circumstances were at play.[3] Lt. Cdr. Norris Edwin Cutler, senior captain of the submarine Unity, had ordered the anchoring, and he too was subjected to a Court Martial.[4]
