H.M.S. Sterlet was one of sixty-two "S" Class submarines completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

On 22 February 1939, Sterlet dragged her anchors while moored 5.9 cables off Sandown Pier Light. Though Lt. Carol Wiliam Phipson Lee had had the watch at the time, Lieutant-in-Command Richard Michael Eames Pain was Court-Martialed in the aftermath and received a reprimand and was dismissed the ship. The Sunfish suffered the same misfortune on the occasion.^[1]^[2]
