Rear-Admiral John Stewart Gordon Fraser, C.B.E., D.S.O., Royal Navy (19 January, 1883 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Fraser was born in Shyamnagar, India and raised by his uncle Dr. J. J. Fraser, who worked as a tea planter.[1]
Fraser was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 September, 1905.[2]
Fraser was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 September, 1913.[3]
Fraser was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1916.[4]
Post-war
Fraser was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1923.[5]
Fraser was appointed in command of the light cruiser Lowestoft in March, 1925.
In December, 1925, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Champion. In 1929 he was lent to the New Zealand Government as Second Naval Member of New Zealand Naval Board, vice Reyne.[6]
Fraser was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 26 August, 1935 and placed on the Retired List the next day.[7]
World War II
He was mobilised on 27 September, 1938 and put to work on the Staff of the Commander of the Nore with a rank to Commodore, R.N.R..[8]
On 24 August, 1939 he was appointed Chief Staff Officer, Dover with the rank of Commodore, Second Class, R.N.R.. He was superseded on 2 November. On 14 November, he was appointed as Captain Superintendent, Dover. He was superseded on this on 16 December, 1940.[9]
He was reverted to the Retired List on 3 January, 1941.[10]
