Vice-Admiral Charles Duncan Johnson, C.B., D.S.O., M.V.O., Royal Navy (26 March, 1869 – 26 June, 1930) was an officer of the Royal Navy during the First World War.
Early Life & Career
Johnson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 January, 1892.[1]
Johnson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1903.
Captain
Johnson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1909.[2]
He was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Drake in November 1911. On 10 December 1912, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Minerva, becoming Captain (D) of Sixth Destroyer Flotilla.[3]
In August 1913, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Dido.
He was appointed in command of Attentive on 29 August, 1913 — still Captain (D) of the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla.[4]
He remained in Attentive as a Commodore, Second Class after handing over the role as ship's captain..[5]
By November, 1915, he was Commodore of the Dover Patrol, flying his broad pendant in Attentive under Vice-Admiral Reginald Bacon. At the same time, he was Senior Naval Officer, Dunkirk.[6]
He was appointed in command of Marlborough on 25 October, 1918.[7]
Johnson was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to King George V on 29 January, 1920.[8]
Johnson was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 March, 1926 and placed on the Retired List on 2 March.[9] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 8 May, 1930.[10]
