Captain (retired) Richard Evan Williams Kirby, D.S.O. (1 September, 1883 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Kirby was born in Kobē, Japan. He listed a J. H. Greene as his guardian upon joining the Navy in May, 1898.[1]
Kirby was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1904.[2]
Kirby passed as an Interpreter in Japanese in October 1911.[3]
Kirby was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 August, 1912.[4]
Kirby was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1917.[5]
Kirby was appointed in command of the destroyer Ness on 28 June, 1918.[6][7]
Kirby was placed on the Retired List at his own request in July 1922 and was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 September, 1928.[8]
