Commander (retired) Geoffrey Cayley Lambert Dalley, (27 April, 1895 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of a stockbroker, who was deceased by the time Dalley joined the Training Establishment on 15 January, 1910. His first ship was the pre-dreadnought Britannia, in which he served from 15 September 1912 until 27 May, 1915.[1]

In June 1914, Dalley secured permission to receive private instruction in aviation during his leave, and his own risk and expense. The times being as they were, this resulted in his receiving a certificate on 24 June, 1914.[2]

Dalley commenced training in submarines on 22 November 1916 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 November. On 20 January, 1917 he was appointed to the coastal submarine C 22. He would serve next in G 10 from 5 September 1917 and then L 11 from 30 April, 1918.[3]

Dalley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 November, 1924.[4]

World War II

Dalley was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 27 April, 1940.[5]

Reverted to the Retired List on 24 June, 1946.
