H.M.S. Winchester was one of twenty-one "W" class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy in 1917-18.
Service
Winchester re-commissioned in Portsmouth on 10 January, 1927 for service with the torpedo training school H.M.S. Vernon. Her captain would henceforth be in charge of all tenders associated with the school.[7]
Due to an error in judgement on the part of Cdr. Henry Maurice Coombs, Winchester collided with the aircraft carrier Courageous in 1931.[8]
