H.M.S. Syren was one of twenty-four "B" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy — a "30 knotter".
Service
On 6 May 1904, Syren collided with the first class protected cruiser Hawke while under the command of Lieutenant Herbert Meade. A Court of Enquiry concluded that no one was to blame in the misadventure.[8]
Commander Sidney Richard Olivier wrecked Syren in 1905 through what a Court Martial determined was an error of judgement, earning him a reprimand and causing him to be replaced in command.
In mid-1913, she was operating with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla.[9]
