Rear-Admiral James Uchtred Farie, C.M.G., Royal Navy, Retired (25 November, 1873 – 17 September, 1957) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Farie was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1895.[1]
Farie was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1905.[2]
He was appointed in command of the destroyer Liffey on 1 December, 1905.[3]
Farie was appointed in command of Latona on 15 February, 1912.[4]
Captain
Farie was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1913.[5]
Farie succeeded Captain Reginald Y. Tyrwhitt in command of Adventure and as Captain (D) in the Second Destroyer Flotilla on 1 December, 1913.[6]
In November 1915, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Champion.[7]
He was Captain (D) of Thirteenth Destroyer Flotilla at the Battle of Jutland, commanding the flotilla from light cruiser Champion.[8]
He was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Cochrane in April, 1918.[9]
Farie was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 19 May, 1922.[10] He was advanced to the rank of Rear-Admiral on the Retired List on 8 October, 1923.[11]
Farie died at his Lymington home on 17 September, 1957, aged eighty-three.[12]
