Wilfred Dixon Stirling

Lieutenant Wilfred Dixon Stirling, R.N. (12 September, 1886 – 1 November, 1914) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Lt. Colonel Stirling, retired, Stirling was born in Pennycross, Devonport.

Stirling was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 15 March, 1906.

Stirling was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1907. On 19 June 1908, he passed for navigator in all but first-class ships. In October 1911, he would be passed for such in navigation and pilotage.

Stirling was appointed to the armoured cruiser Monmouth as navigator on 30 July 1914 and would die in her when she was lost at the Battle of Coronel on 1 November, 1914.
