Stuart Douglas Wilson
Commander (retired) Stuart Douglas Wilson, (24 March, 1890 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Reverend G. Wilson.
Certified as a Fourth Class Assistant Surveyor in March 1912, Wilson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1912.[1]
Wilson served as first and navigating officer in the destroyer Martin from 1 April 1914 to 16 September, 1915 when he was appointed to the new Mystic, to serve as her navigator upon her commissioning. He was superseded in this appointment on 4 April, 1916 and spent about two months in Portsmouth.[2]
On 7 June, 1916 Wilson was apponted to the monitor Marshal Ney as navigator. In August he was appointed to Parker. This was apparently "cancelled" on 15 February 1917 when he was directed to report to the Admiralty, but that date is so late that one must presume he served in the ship.[3]
On 17 January 1918 he was appointed to the light cruiser H.M.S. Champion as navigator. He served through to 9 May 1919, being made first and navigating officer from 24 April, 1919. He spent about a month in hospital in May-June, 1918.[4]
Wilson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 October, 1920. He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 2 February, 1923.[5]
Wilson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 24 March, 1930.[6]
World War II
Some service, including some as N.C.S. The Clyde.
