Robert Marsland Groves
Captain Robert Marsland Groves, C.B., D.S.O., A.F.C., R.N. (3 January, 1880 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of James Grimble Groves, brewer and manufacturer of woolen goods was born in Stratford[?], Lancashire.[1]
Groves was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1903. His Service Record does not indicate his ever being made a Lt. Cdr.. In 1908, he contributed to good results in wireless telegraphy tests between Vernon and the battlecruiser Indomitable.[2]
Groves was promoted to the rank of Commander on 22 June, 1911.[3]
Great War
Groves was promoted to the rank of acting Wing Commander on 29 October, 1915.[4]
Groves was promoted to the rank of acting Wing Captain on 30 June, 1916.[5]
Groves was promoted to the rank of Wing Captain on 31 December, 1916.[6]
Groves was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1917.[7]
Granted permanent commission as Group Captain R.A.F. on 1 August, 1919.[8]
