Robert Bannister Lyness

Commander R.N.R. (retired) Robert Bannister Lyness, R.D. (29 November, 1874 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Lyness was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 3 December, 1908.

Lyness was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 3 December, 1916.

Lyness was cautioned after grounding the sweeping sloop Foxglove in 1919.

Lyness assumed command of the survey ship Flinders upon her commissioning around mid October 1919. Around one month later, he had moved on to command the sweeping sloop Isinglass.

Lyness was demobilised and placed on the Retired List at the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 13 January, 1920.
