James Gordon Fraser
Captain James Gordon Fraser, O.B.E. (29 October, 1882 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in London, the son of Barrister at Law Arthur M. Fraser.[1]
Fraser was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 29 October, 1902.[2]
Fraser passed for lower interpreter in French in January, 1909 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 39 October, 1910.[3]
Fraser was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1914 and re-appointed as navigator in the armoured cruiser Shannon. He served in the ship until being appointed to Repulse as navigator and acting interpreter in French on 4 July 1916.[4]
Fraser was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1921. He was placed on the Retired List on 5 July, 1922.[5]
World War II
Some service, including as Naval Officer in Charge, Penang, ending in early 1942 after he broke down under the strain and had to be sent to Colombo. He was medically reviewed and found fit for general service, but reverted to Retired Pay on 6 May and appears to have left service.[6]
