Early Life & Career
Von Rebeur-Paschwitz served as the German Naval attaché to Washington in 1899.
In 1917, he replaced Admiral Souchon in command of the Central Powers naval forces under nominal Ottoman control. In this capacity, he elected to order a bold foray into the Mediterranean which precipitated the ruinous Battle of Imbros, which saw minefields deliver strategically crippling damage to the Goeben and the outright loss of the light cruiser Breslau in exchange for inflicting damage the British could readily suffer.
Von Rebeur-Paschwitz was promoted to the rank of Vizeadmiral on 18 September, 1915.[1]
