Gerald Courtney Banister
Captain Gerald Courtney Banister, C.B.E. (26 May, 1892 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Lt. Col. G. Banister, Swales Borderers, retired.
Banister was awarded the Ogilvy Medal for the year 1915, haaving placed first in examinations to qualify for Lieutenant (T).
Banister was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 November, 1913. He served in Shannon from the outbreak of war to 12 February 1915. Following a torpedo course at Vernon, he remained with the torpedo school, eventually being part of the Paravane Department through April 1917. He was then sent to the Mediterranean to work on the staff of the Commander-in-Chief for paravane duties.[1]
Banister was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 November, 1921.[2]
Banister was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1927. In the late 1930s, he would come to specialise in Boom Defence.[3]
World War II
Banister was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Captain on 26 May, 1942.[4]
He reverted to the Retired List on 16 September, 1947.[5]
