George Frederick Montagu

Captain (retired) George Frederick Montagu, (12 March, 1883 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of retired Lt. R. A. C. Montagu was born in York.[1]

Montagu was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 November, 1903.[2]

Montagu was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 November, 1911.[3]

At the outset of the war, Montagu was appointed to Victorious. He was re-appointed to the ship upon his promotion to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1915. On 25 November, 1916, he left her to take up the role of torpedo officer in Canada. On 27 December 1917, he was appointed to some duty with the R.N.A.S.. This work would continue through the end of the war.[4]

Montagu was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 31 December, 1919.[5]

On 1 November, 1923, Montagu changed his name to George Frederick Montagu Weld Blundell, "Weld Blundell" being the last name.

Weld Blundell was promoted to the rank of Captain on 12 March, 1928.[6]
