Geoffrey Herbert Freyberg

Captain (retired) Geoffrey Herbert Freyberg, (8 July, 1881 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Freyberg was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1902.

Freyberg was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1910.

Freyberg was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1915.

Appointed to the battleship Valiant as navigation officer on 6 November 1915, he fought in her at the Battle of Jutland. He left her after the war when he was appointed as King's Harbour Master, Plymouth.

From 1922 to 1926, he worked in the Hydrographic Department.

Freyberg was promoted to the rank of Captain on 8 July, 1926.

World War II

Appointed in command of the armed merchant cruiser Ausonia from 12 September 1940 until 7 May 1942, holding the acting rank of Captain.

Reverted to Retired List on 19 July 1946.
