Francis Robert Wrottesley

Captain (retired) Francis Robert Wrottesley, D.S.O., R.N. (8 June, 1877 – 13 November, 1954) served in the Royal Navy.

His service record has inserted slips obscuring most of the entries.

Life & Career

The son of Reverend F. J. Wrottesley was born in Chichester.

Wrottesley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 August, 1899.

Wrottesley was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 August, 1909.

Wrottesley commanded the Fourteenth Kite Balloon Section, R.N.A.S. in the Persian Gulf in 1916 and 1917, lending valuable spotting services for the Army and riverine gunboat operations.

Wrottesley was placed on the Retired List as medically unfit with the rank of Captain on 10 July, 1919.
