Francis John Butler

Captain Francis John Butler, M.B.E. (21 September, 1899 – 20 January, 1953) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Butler's father, an Army officer, was deceased by the time he joined the service. He named his mother as his guardian.

Butler was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1919.

Butler was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 August, 1927.

Butler was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1933.

World War II

Butler was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1941.

He was placed on the Retired List on 8 January, 1951 and presently underwent radon treatment for his mouth and tongue. He would die two years later of carcinoma of the glands of his neck.
