Francis George Gillilan Chilton
Vice-Admiral Francis George Gillilan Chilton, C.B., G.S.P., G.D.C. (8 July, 1879 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Chilton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1901.[1]
Chilton was appointed to Dreadnought on 24 March, 1909 and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 October, 1909. He would remain in Dreadnought until 27 March, 1911, starting an appointment to Victory to be Flag Lieutenant to Admiral Moore.[2]
Chilton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1914.[3]
Chilton was appointed in command of the scout cruiser Foresight on 31 January, 1918.[4]
Post-War
In January, 1919, Chilton was appointed in command of the battleship Superb.
Chilton was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1919.[5]
Chilton was appointed in command of the battlecruiser Repulse in April, 1928.
Chilton was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 June, 1931.[6]
He was appointed Rear-Admiral and Senior Naval Officer, Yangtze on 25 August, 1933 and assumed command on 24 October. He was superseded on 22 October, 1935.[7]
Chilton was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 2 January, 1936.[8]
World War II
Chilton was appointed to President additional for duty within the Admiralty on 14 February, 1942, serving as a Commodore, Second Class. He was returned to the Retired List on 5 January, 1945.[9]
