Evan Bruce-Gardyne, Thirteenth Laird of Middleton

Captain Evan Bruce-Gardyne, D.S.O., Royal Navy (21 April, 1885 – 24 July, 1949) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Career

The son of Barrister-at-Law D. G. Bruce-Gardyne was born at 128 Sloane Street, SW, London.[1]

Bruce-Gardyne was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant dated 15 October, 1905.[2]

Bruce-Gardyne was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander dated 15 October, 1913.[3]

Bruce-Gardyne was Gunnery Officer of Tiger at the beginning of the First World War, though in March 1915 following a Court of Enquiry into the poor shooting the battlecruiser was performing, the Commander-in-Chief called for Bruce-Gardyne's replacement. He was removed on 9 March.

After some time at Excellent, Bruce-Gardyne was appointed as gunnery officer in Marshal Ney on 10 July, 1915. When she paid off on 7 February, 1916, he was appointed to Terror. He left this appointment on 1 March, 1918, habing been promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1917.[4]

In 1920, he was awarded the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal and Certificate.[5]

He was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 31 March, 1932.[6]
