Denis Ward Granet
Lieutenant-Commander (emergency) Denis Ward Granet (6 April, 1895 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Granet served in the pre-dreadnought battleship Commonwealth from 15 September 1912 until he was appointed to the destroyer Falcon on 26 May, 1915. On 20 October, he was appointed to the Mindful, but almost immediately transferred to Rifleman, which was operating in the Mediterranean as part of the Fifth Destroyer Flotilla.[1]
Granet was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 September, 1916.[2]
In January 1917 he commenced training for and service with submarines, first under Dolphin and then Arrogant. In late March he was assigned to C 4. Later in the year, he was placed in H 2, where he remained through the end of the war. He briefly was in command of the interned German U-boat U 101 in January, 1919.[3]
Granet was appointed in command of the submarine H 47 on 24 September, 1919.[4]
Granet resigned his commission on 28 January, 1921 and was placed on the Emergency List. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on the Emergency List on 30 September, 1924. He was removed from the list on 28 June 1926 upon receiving a commission in the Territorial Army.[5]
