David Crawfurd Pillans
Captain David Crawfurd Pillans, (7 August, 1885 – ) served in the Royal Navy. His middle name is spelled "Crawford" in some sources.
Life & Career
Pillans was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1907.
Lent to the Royal Australian Navy, he was appointed to the heavy cruiser Australia on 24 May 1913 and remained in her through some time in 1918 when he was appointed to the monitor Mersey, having been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 October, 1915.
On 29 July 1918, he was appointed as Senior Naval Officer, Jaffa and was re-appointed as Acting Commander in December 1918.
Pillans was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1920.
On 12 February 1925 he was again loaned to the R.A.N., for two years.
Pillans was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 22 December, 1931.
