Charles Ramsay Arbuthnot
Admiral Charles Ramsay Arbuthnot, F.R.G.S., Royal Navy, Retired (5 February, 1850 – 30 September, 1913) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Arbuthnot became a naval cadet in September, 1863 at age 13, achieving the rank of Sub-Lieutenant in December 1869.[1] He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant from the Royal Yacht on 7 September, 1871.[2]
Arbuthnot was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1883.[3]
Arbuthnot was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1891.[4]
Arbuthnot was placed in command of the armoured cruiser Orlando on the Australian Station in 1892.[5]
He was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser Crescent in January 1895, remaining in that ship until March.[6]
In January 1896, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Hermione.[7]
He was appointed in command of the battleship Resolution in April, 1898, staying there until March, 1900.[8]
Arbuthnot was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to King Edward VII on 9 September, 1901, vice Poë.[9]

Arbuthnot was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 January, 1904.[10]
In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, Arbuthnot was placed on the Retired List on 1 July, 1907.[11] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 22 March, 1908,[12] and to Admiral on 18 September, 1911.[13]
