Arthur Robert Halfhide
Captain Arthur Robert Halfhide, C.B.E. (13 December, 1890 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Wimbledon, the son of E. [illeg] Halfhide.[1]
Halfhide was awarded the Ryder Memorial Prize for placing highest in the examination in French at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich.[2]
Halfhide was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 July, 1911. He was appointed to the battleship Thunderer of the Second Battle Squadron on 12 October, 1912 and served in her through the entire war, including at the Battle of Jutland.[3]
Halfhide was appointed in command of the river gunboat Woodcock on 22 February, 1919 and re-appointed in her when he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 July, 1919.[4]
Halfhide was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1925.[5]
Halfhide was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1933.[6]
In 1934-36, Halfhide was Senior Officer of the gunboats on the West River Flotilla.[7]
World War II
Halfhide was placed on the Retired List on 28 July, 1942.[8]
