Captain William Derek Stephens, (5 March, 1898 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of W. J. Stephens, Esq., of Hampstead.

He passed out of the Training Establishment upon the outbreak of war and was appointed to the battleship Formidable, surviving her loss on New Year's Day, 1915. He next served in Neptune, fighting in her at the Battle of Jutland and remaining in her until being sent to Dolphin for instruction in submarines on 15 October, 1917.

Stephens was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1918.

Stephens was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1926.

Stephens was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1931.

Stephens was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1937.

World War II

He retired on 8 June, 1947.
