Lieutenant-Commander John Richards Corner, R.N. (4 November, 1877 – 7 January, 1916) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Chatham, Kent, Corner gained six months' time on passing out of Britannia in December, 1893.

Corner was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1900.

In May 1907, Corner was found to have failed to correct charts in Bittern. He was deemed unfit for command of a T.B.D. and was to be relieved. He was placed in command of Brazen, and elicited displeasure by neglecting sailing instructions. He was superseded on 28 May, 1907. It would be his last appointment to a small ship.

Corner was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1908.

As he received a counter-note to Captain Henderson's evaluation from Rear-Admiral Frederic Brock that "I do not concur as to temperance", Corner was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 24 January, 1910.

Though he had received some instruction in minesweeping, Corner was informed in August 1914 hat he would not be offered a naval appointment.
