Wing Commander James Louis Forbes (26 January, 1880 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy, the Royal Naval Air Service and the Royal Air Force.
Life & Career
The son of Retired Captain J. Arthur Forbes, R.N. was born in Berwick and gained seven months' time on passing out of Britannia.
Forbes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1901.
Forbes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1909.
Forbes was in Recruit for the Test Mobilisation, but was given his first and only ship command when he was appointed in command of the new destroyer Mastiff on 10 October, 1914.[1]
Forbes was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1915.
Forbes left Mastiff when he was ordered to report to the Admiralty in February, 1916. He found himself ordered to work under the Director of Air Service, and in mid March he was placed in command of Air Service Unit 5 at Eastchurch.
Forbes was promoted to the rank of Wing Commander on 16 March, 1916. On 9 September 1916, he was appointed to President for "G" Section, Air Department. There is not much detail in his service record.
Post-War
Forbes was granted a permanent commission as Wing Commander on 1 August, 1919.
