Charles Laverock Lambe

Captain Charles Laverock Lambe, C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O., R.N. (10 May, 1875 – 25 April, 1953) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in London, the son of F. G. Lambe, Esq..[1]

Lambe first served a few months in the light cruiser Aurora before being promoted to the rank of Midshipman. He served another year in Aurora before being appointed to the Narcissus briefly and then to the second class battleship H.M.S. Camperdown on 23 August, 1892, which was serving in the Mediterranean. He was aboard her when she accidentally rammed the fleet flagship Victoria in 1893, resulting in the loss of the flagship.[2]

Lambe was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 22 June, 1897.[3]

He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1908.[4]

In October 1914, he was blamed for the loss of H.M.S. Hermes to a German submarine off Dover. He was placed on half pay to await an appointment ashore.[5]

Lambe was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1916 and re-appointed as Wing Captain in command of Air Patrols, Dunkirk and Dover.[6]

He was transferred to the R.A.F. on 1 August, 1919.[7]
