H.M.S. Defender (1911)
Pendant Number: H.28 (1914)
H.29 (Jan 1918)[1]
Builder: William Denny & Brothers[2]
Ordered: 1910-11 Programme[3]
Launched: 30 Aug, 1911[4]
Completed: Jan, 1912[5]

H.M.S. Defender was one of 29 destroyers of the Acheron class.

Defender was one of eighteen Acheron class destroyers fitted with W/T in 1912, becoming one of 123 destroyers so far fitted with Destroyer Sets.[7]

Completed in January, 1912, Defender received a nucleus crew of T.B. 12, which travelled to Dunbarton to take the new ship to Devonport to take on stores and then proceed to Portsmouth where she would take in a full crew to join the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla.[8]

By mid-1913, Defender was serving with her sisters in the First Destroyer Flotilla.[9]

She fought at the Battle of Jutland as part of the First Destroyer Flotilla,[10] which was tasked with screening the Fifth Battle Squadron.

She was reduced to C. & M. Party at Devonport on 15 October, 1919.[11]
