Vice-Admiral George Bingham Powell, R.N., Retired (12 January, 1870 – 27 May, 1952) was an officer of the Royal Navy during the First World War.

Life & Career

Powell was specially promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1903 for services in China in 1900.[1]

On 31 December 1910, Powell was promoted to Captain.[2]

He was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser Gibraltar on 23 October, 1912 and then for command of Egmont on 13 March, 1913.[3]

Great War

Powell was appointed to command H.M.S. Devonshire on 10 November, 1917.[4]

Post-war

Powell was appointed in command of the battleship Monarch on 29 August, 1919.[5]

Powell was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 16 June, 1921.[6]

Powell was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 8 July, 1926.[7]

He died on 27 May, 1952 of a coronary occlusion.
