Captain (retired) Edmond Alan Berners Stanley, D.S.O., M.V.O. (2 September, 1882 – 23 November, 1951) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Stanley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 March, 1904.[1]
Stanley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 March, 1912.[2]
Stanley was appointed in command of the destroyer Desperate on 8 June, 1912.[3]
On 5 March, 1914, Stanley was appointed in command of the destroyer Afridi,[4] and was re-appointed there on 6 September, 1914.[5]
In August 1915, Stanley was appointed in command of the destroyer Staunch, of the Second Destroyer Flotilla. In November of that year, he took her into the Mediterranean when she was transferred to the Fifth Destroyer Flotilla. He survived her torpedoing and loss after two years there, on 11 November, 1917 and be promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1917.[6]
Stanley was appointed in command of the flotilla leader Kempenfelt on 27 February, 1918.[7]
Stanley was promoted to the rank of Captain on the Retired List on 2 September, 1927.[8]
World War II
Stanley saw extensive service in World War II. TODO: service record has more
Stanley reverted to the Retired List on 16 June, 1946.[9]
