Vice-Admiral (retired) Douglas Young-Jamieson, C.B. (19 October, 1893 – 28 May, 1955) served in the Royal Navy.
Contents
Life & Career
Born the son of a former Lieutenant Colonel who became a magistrate, Young-Jamieson passed out of the Royal Navy Training Establishment on 15 May, 1911, gaining a half month's time in doing so.
Great War
Young-Jamieson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May, 1916.[1]
Inter-War
Young-Jamieson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 May, 1924.[2]
Young-Jamieson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1930.[3]
Young-Jamieson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1937.[4]
He was appointed to the sloop Bideford on 14 November, 1938, to take command upon commissioning, vice Faulkner. He remained until being appointed to Kent, to take command in the place of a sick Leslie Haliburton Ashmore.[5]
World War II
Although his appointment in Kent was originally intended to be temporary, on 1 March 1940 he was re-appointed in command and as Flag Captain and Chief Staff Officer to R.A. commanding Third Cruiser Squadron upon the transfer of flag.[6]
Young-Jamieson was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 8 January, 1947.[7]
Young-Jamieson was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral and placed on the Retired List on 15 August, 1950. He succumbed to carcinoma on 28 May, 1955.[8]
