Admiral Alexander Victor Campbell, C.B., D.S.O., M.V.O., Royal Navy (27 September, 1874 – 2 June, 1957) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Campbell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 14 October, 1894.[1]
On 31 December, 1905, Campbell was promoted to the rank of Commander.[2]
Campbell was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1913.[3]
Campbell commanded the naval detachments at funeral of King Edeard VII and at the coronation of King Geroge V.[4]
He was appointed in command of the battleship Prince George on 15 August, 1914.[5]
On 22 January, 1916, Campbell ordered that a torpedoed transport should be beached. It was noted that his action "undoubtedly" saved the ship and a portion of its cargo.[6]
He served as captain of the battleship Albion from February to May, 1916, when he moved to command the battleship Britannia for two months.
He was appointed in command of the battleship King George V on 5 April, 1918 as Flag Captain and Chief of Staff to Vice-Admiral de Robeck.[7]

Campbell was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 14 October, 1923, vice Borrett.[8]
He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 11 June, 1928, vice Brand, and was placed on the Retired List on 12 June.[9]
He was promoted to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 1 November, 1932.[10]
Campbell died at his London home at the age of 83. There is a rather impressive memorial for him in Putney Lower Common Cemetery, where he is presumably interred.[11]
