Admiral SIR Hubert George Brand, (20 May, 1870 – 14 December, 1955) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Brand was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1892.[1]

On the occasion of the King's visit to Ireland Brand was appointed a Member of the Fourth Class of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) on 11 August, 1903.[2]

Brand was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1907.[3] On 30 May, 1908, he was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser Blenheim.[4] He was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Good Hope on 5 February, 1909,[5] as Flag Captain to Rear-Admiral Frederick T. Hamilton in the Fifth Cruiser Squadron.

On 27 March, 1912 Brand was appointed to the scout cruiser Bellona for command of the Second Destroyer Flotilla.[6]

Brand succeeded Captain Sir Douglas E. R. Brownrigg, Bart. as Naval Attaché at Tokyo on 9 October, 1912.[7]

Great War

On the occasion of the King's birthday he was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 3 June, 1918.[8]

Post-War

Brand was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 12 February, 1919, vice Singer.[9] In recognition of his services during the war he was appointed an Additional Member of the Second Class, or Knight Commander, in the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (K.C.M.G.) on 5 April.[10] On 1 May he was appointed Rear-Admiral Commanding H.M. Yachts.[11]

He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 October, 1924, vice Bruen.[12]

On the occasion of the King's birthday brand was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Second Class, or Knight Commander, of the Military Division of the Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) on 3 June, 1927.[13]

On 11 June, 1928, he was promoted to the rank of Admiral, vice Fergusson.[14]
