Career

A gunnery training ship at the Nore just prior to Great War,[1] Vengeance was commissioned into the Sixth Battle Squadron of the Channel Fleet, before joining the Eighth Battle Squadron on 8 August, 1914. She replaced H.M.S. Prince George as squadron flagship on 15 August.[2]

Torpedoes

In 1904, in a competition to investigate how rapidly submerged tubes could be fired four times sequentially, starting with the tube loaded and the bar out, the ship's crew was able to do this in 4 minutes, 50 seconds.  The best time was achieved by Cressy at 50.75 seconds, though times of 3-5 minutes were more typical.[3]
