Commander John Allen Shuter, R.N. (Retired) (30 July, 1887 – 11 April, 1974) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Abbey Wood, Erith.

Shuter was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1909.

From 25 November 1914 until 7 June 1915, Shuter was serving in the armed merchant cruiser Changuinola.

Shuter was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1917.

Shuter served sas Assistant Mine Clearance Officer, Area III encompassing the Orkneys from May 1919 until the appointment was cancelled on 1 October, 1919.

Shuter was placed on the Retired List at his own request with gratuity on 14 December, 1920.

Shuter was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 July, 1927.

World War II

Removed from list of R.N. Officers on 10 September 1942 for reasons that seem financial in nature, as he appealed this decision in 1944, citing payments made via Barclays in August 1943.

Last Years

At the end of his life Shuter was living at Heath Lodge, Lucas Green, West End, Woking in Surrey. His death was registered in the South East Hampshire Registration District in the second quarter of 1974.[1]
