The twenty-two torpedo boats of the Schichau Class were completed for the Austro-Hungarian Navy between 1886 and 1891.

History & Design

Initially given names, the boats were redesignated with the numbers 19–40 on 1 April, 1910.

Ten of the boats were converted to serve as minesweepers in the years immediately before the war.

Armament

  • two 37 mm Hotchkiss guns
  • two single 356 mm (14-in) torpedo tubes

The torpedoes carried only a 45 kg warhead, to a range of 600m at 24 knots. Such performance would have greatly inhibited the punch of such torpedo boats by 1914.
