H.M.S. Triumph was one of two Swiftsure Class central battery ironclads completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

In mid-1877, Hercules and Triumph required new boilers to replace their worn-out equipment. As none were available at Portsmouth, new ones were ordered by contract.[6]

Commissioned at Portsmouth on 1 January, 1885 under command of Captain Henry Rose for service in the Pacific as Flag Ship. Rear-Admiral Michael Culme-Seymour would be appointed to hoist his flag in her on 4 July, 1885.[7]

In February, 1888, she was still flagship on the Pacific Station, bearing the Commander-in-Chief, Rear-Admiral Algernon C. F. Heneage.[8]

She commissioned on 24 June, 1901 as a depot ship for T.Bs. and T.B.Ds., with eight destroyers under her care.[9]

She was renamed H.M.S. Tenedos in 1904 and became, briefly, a depot ship for destroyers. She moved to Chatham Dockyard in 1906 to become a training establishment.
