Service
Emerald was commissioned at Devonport on 4 September, 1928 for service with the Fourth Cruiser Squadron on the East Indies Station.[6]
She was commissioned at Devonport 24 March, 1931 for service with the Fourth Cruiser Squadron on the East Indies Station under the command of Captain John Wittewronge Clayton.[7]

- Commander Edward S. F. Fegen, 1 July, 1939[20] – 28 February, 1940[21] (this seems dubious)
- Captain Francis C. Flynn, 1 June, 1940 – 25 August, 1942
- Captain Francis J. Wylie, March, 1943[22] – October, 1944[23]
There is clearly a disagreement between Agar and Fegen. Flynn's service record says he served vice Agar.
