U.S.S. K-8 was one of eight Haddock Class submarines completed for the U.S. Navy.
She was laid down by the Union Iron Works in San Francisco under subcontract from Electric Boat Company of Groton, Connecticut. She was launched on 11 July 1914 sponsored by Mrs. John W. Lewis, wife of the first commanding officer, and commissioned on 1 December at Mare Island under command of Lieutenant John William Lewis.
Service
In early 1916, K-3, K-4, K-7 and K-8 were based in Pearl Harbor, their crews living aboard U.S.S. Alert.[4]
