Hubert Lynes

Rear-Admiral Hubert Lynes, C.B., C.M.G. (27 November 1874 – 10 November 1942) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

He was an expert ornithologist.

Life & Career

He served aboard Venus in the Mediterranean around 1905.

Lynes was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1911.

He took command of the yacht Enchantress on 9 August, 1912.[1]

Lynes was appointed in command of Sutlej in August 1914,[2] remaining with her until he was placed in command of Penelope on 1 December to commission the new ship.[3]

He was appointed in command of the Warspite in May, 1918.[4]
