Lieutenant-Commander John Samuel Sandford Penrose, (12 July, 1879 – 26 November, 1914) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Penrose was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1902. In 1903 or so, he was tried by Court Martial for being drunk on board and for making a belated effort to rectify that fact, in part, by jumping overboard when placed under arrest.

Penrose was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1910.

Penrose was appointed to the battleship H.M.S. Bulwark as first and navigating officer on 18 April, 1913 and died when she blew up on 26 November, 1914.
