Life & Career
Portal was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with an adjusted seniority of 15 February, 1916.
Post-War
Portal was loaned to the Royal Air Force for three years from 1 January, 1923.
Portal was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 February, 1924.
Portal was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1926.
Portal was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1934.
World War II
Portal was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 8 July, 1943.
Portal was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 3 May, 1947.
Portal was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 4 October, 1950.
Placed on the Retired List on 1 May, 1951.
