Charles Gordon Ramsey
Admiral SIR Charles Gordon Ramsey, K.C.B., (4 December, 1882 – 1966) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Ramsey was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1904.[1]
Ramsey was appointed Lieutenant & Commander of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 11 on 28 July, 1908.[2]
Ramsey was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1912.[3]
Ramsey was appointed in command of the destroyer Manly on 6 November, 1914.[4]
Ramsey was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1915.[5]
Ramsey commanded the destroyer Acheron at the Battle of Jutland as part of the First Destroyer Flotilla.[6]
On 3 October, 1917, Ramsey was appointed in command of the destroyer Vendetta.[7]
He was appointed in command of the flotilla leader Vampire on 7 July, 1919.[8]
Ramsey was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1922.[9]
On 4 December, 1931, he was appointed in command of the battleship Royal Oak.
Ramsey was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 March, 1934.[10]
Ramsey was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 15 January, 1938.[11]
Ramsey was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 6 April, 1942 and was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 15 September, 1942.[12]
