Rear-Admiral Alfred Astley Ellison C.B., Royal Navy, Retired (7 December, 1874 – 25 December, 1932) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Ellison was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 39 June, 1896.[1]

Ellison was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 January, 1907.[2]

Ellison was appointed in command of the torpedo gunboat Halcyon on 23 January, 1912 and re-appointed several times, including when being promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1914. He ceased being captain of the ship on 31 August, 1914, but remained in her.[3]TODO: get copy of other service records to resolve other appointments here

In 1918, he was found in breach of petrol regulations when using a car while shooting game and informed that this must not continue.[4]

Post-War

Ellison was appointed in command of the battleship Commonwealth on 30 September, 1920.[5]

Ellison was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 11 November, 1922 and advanced to the rank of Rear-Admiral on the Retired List on 26 September, 1924.[6]
