In September of 1914, 54T was in Sebenico participating in submarine patrols until 31 December.  On 28 January she had her boilers replaced in Pola. On 6 June laid mines off Spalato and 19 July off Lissa.  On 20 September, 54T was laying mines off Arcangelo when chased off by an enemy submarine.  After that, until 14 February 1916, when stationed back in Sebenico, participated in four submarine patrols, several minesweeping runs, and convoy escort duties.  25 October escorted a convoy to Pola and re-stationed there.  In 1917, moved to Quarnero, then on 31 October returned to Sebenico.  After that, several minesweeping runs and twenty-nine convoys were escorted.  On 5 January 1918 returned to Pola.  On 19 June, rammed by ''Szeged'' while escorting convoy.  Repairs in Pola completed 28 August, patrolled Strait of Cattaro on 5 September.
