Admiral Gerald Walter Russell, Royal Navy, Retired (17 January, 1850 – 7 November, 1928) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

On 13 March, 1873, Russell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 19 January, confirming a Commission given by Vice-Admiral Charles F. A. Shadwell, C.B., Commander-in-Chief on the China Station, in the death vacancy of Lieutenant Edward Cooper Abbs.[1]

Russell was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1883.[2]

Russell was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1892.[3]

Russell was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 September, 1904, vice Jeffreys.[4]

In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 1 March, 1908.[5] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 2 July, 1908,[6] and to Admiral on 30 July, 1912.[7]
