Commander (retired) Henry Francis Waight, (22 February, 1887 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Waight was promoted to the rank of Mate on 16 October, 1914.[1]

Waight was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1917. This was subsequently adjusted to 15 May, 1917.[2]

Waight was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 May, 1925. In December, 1925, Waight elicited severe displeasure from the Admiralty after Tarpon caused damage to a private craft by its wash, owing to excessive speed. He was re-appointed to command Skate on 16 November, 1926 and then to command PC 74 in Febnruary, 1927.[3]

After a 14 April 1927 Court of Enquiry into the grounding of PC 74, Waight was blamed for "shew[ing] a want of proper precaution." Perhaps in consequence, in June and December of 1927, he was specifically not recommended by Admiral Brock.[4]

Waight was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 24 November, 1929.[5]

World War II

In August 1939 he was appointed Naval Officer in Charge, Ardrossan, and for command of the trawler base there. He helped bring facilities at Ardrossan up to a wartime operational standard.[6]
